🍞🥩 Creamed Chipped Beef on Toast
Ingredients
- 2 oz dried chipped beef, sliced into bite-size pieces
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp flour
- 1½ cups milk (whole milk = richest)
- Black pepper (don’t be shy)
- Optional: pinch of paprika or nutmeg
- Toasted white or Texas toast
Instructions
- Prep the beef
- Rinse chipped beef briefly under warm water to remove excess salt.
- Pat dry and chop if needed.
- Make the roux
- Melt butter in a skillet over medium heat.
- Whisk in flour and cook 1–2 minutes until smooth (no browning).
- Cream it up
- Slowly whisk in milk, stirring constantly until thick and smooth.
- Add beef + seasoning
- Stir in chipped beef.
- Season with black pepper and optional paprika/nutmeg.
- Simmer 2–3 minutes until cozy and thick.
- Serve
- Spoon generously over hot toast.
