Pepper steak

Here’s a simple, classic pepper steak recipe you can make at home 🍽️

Ingredients (serves ~2–3)

  • 1 lb (450 g) flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced against the grain
  • 2 bell peppers (green + red is classic), sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp oyster sauce (optional but tasty)
  • 1 tbsp cornstarch
  • Β½ cup beef broth or water
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh ginger (or Β½ tsp ground)
  • Black pepper, to taste (pepper is the star!)
  • 2 tbsp oil (vegetable or sesame)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef
    Mix beef with soy sauce, cornstarch, and a pinch of black pepper. Let it sit 10–15 minutes.
  2. Cook the beef
    Heat 1 tbsp oil in a hot pan or wok. Sear beef quickly (1–2 minutes) until just browned. Remove and set aside.
  3. Stir-fry veggies
    Add remaining oil. Cook onion and peppers for 2–3 minutes until slightly tender but still crisp. Add garlic and ginger; cook 30 seconds.
  4. Combine & sauce
    Return beef to the pan. Add beef broth and oyster sauce. Stir and cook 1–2 minutes until sauce thickens.
  5. Finish
    Add lots of freshly ground black pepper. Taste and adjust salt or soy sauce.

Serve with

  • Steamed white rice 🍚
  • Fried rice or noodles
  • Cauliflower rice for a lighter option
