Classic Banana Bread Recipe

Makes 1 loaf

Ingredients

  • 3 very ripe bananas, mashed
  • ½ cup sugar (white, brown, or half & half)
  • ¼ cup melted butter or oil
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • ¼ tsp salt
  • 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour

Optional add-ins:

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans
  • ½ cup chocolate chips
  • ½ tsp cinnamon

Instructions

1️⃣ Preheat oven

  • Preheat to 350°F (175°C).
  • Grease a loaf pan or line with parchment.

2️⃣ Mix wet ingredients

  • In a bowl, mash bananas.
  • Stir in sugar, melted butter, egg, and vanilla.

3️⃣ Add dry ingredients

  • Sprinkle baking soda and salt over the mixture.
  • Stir in flour just until combined (don’t overmix).

4️⃣ Add extras (optional)

  • Fold in nuts, chocolate chips, or spices.

5️⃣ Bake

  • Pour batter into pan.
  • Bake 50–60 minutes, until a toothpick comes out clean.

6️⃣ Cool

  • Let cool 10 minutes in pan, then transfer to a rack.
