Ohhh yes—slow cooker cube steak with gravy is pure comfort. Set it, forget it, come back to tender beef swimming in rich gravy 😌
Ingredients
- 4–6 cube steaks
- Salt & black pepper
- 1 packet onion soup mix or 1 tsp each onion powder + garlic powder
- 2 cans cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 small onion, sliced (optional but great)
- 1–2 tbsp cornstarch (optional, for thicker gravy)
Easy slow cooker method
1. Season the steaks
Season both sides of the cube steaks with salt and pepper.
(Optional but recommended)
Lightly brown them in a skillet with a bit of oil—1–2 minutes per side. This adds flavor but you can skip if you’re in lazy mode.
2. Layer in the slow cooker
- Place onions on the bottom (if using).
- Lay cube steaks on top.
- In a bowl, mix cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and onion soup mix.
- Pour mixture over the steaks.
3. Cook low & slow
- LOW: 6–8 hours
- HIGH: 3–4 hours
The meat should be fork-tender.
4. Thicken the gravy (optional)
If you want thicker gravy:
- Mix cornstarch with a little cold water.
- Stir into the slow cooker.
- Cook 15–20 minutes on HIGH.
Serve it with
- Mashed potatoes (classic)
- Rice
- Egg noodles
- Green beans or corn on the side
Flavor upgrades (optional but 🔥)
- Splash of Worcestershire sauce
- Mushrooms instead of/on top of onions
- A pinch of paprika or thyme
- Finish with black pepper
This is the kind of meal that tastes like it cooked all day—because it did 😄
