Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Posted on February 7, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a full recipe for Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak—tender, flavorful, and perfect for a hands-off meal:

Ingredients (serves 4)

For the patties:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80% lean)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

For the gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: mushrooms, sliced (1 cup)

Instructions

1. Prepare the patties

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently until combined.
  • Form into 4–6 oval patties.

2. Make the gravy

  • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
  • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard, garlic powder, and season with salt and pepper.
  • Optional: add mushrooms to the gravy.

3. Assemble in slow cooker

  • Place patties in the slow cooker.
  • Pour gravy over the patties, ensuring they’re mostly covered.

4. Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours, until patties are tender.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot with mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
  • Spoon extra gravy over the top.

💡 Tips:

  • Browning the patties quickly in a skillet before slow cooking adds extra flavor but is optional.
  • Leftovers reheat well and taste even better the next day.
  • For a thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir into the gravy near the end of cooking.

If you want, I can also make a “slow cooker Salisbury steak with cheesy mashed potato topping” version, kind of like a one-pot comfort meal.

Do you want me to do that?
