Here’s a complete Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak recipe with ingredients and step-by-step instructions:

Ingredients (serves 4)

For the patties:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80% lean works best)
  • 1/4 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and black pepper, to taste

For the gravy:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard (optional)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: 1 cup sliced mushrooms

Instructions

1. Prepare the patties

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix gently until evenly combined.
  • Form into 4–6 oval patties.

2. Make the gravy

  • In a skillet over medium heat, melt butter.
  • Stir in flour and cook 1–2 minutes to make a roux.
  • Gradually whisk in beef broth until smooth.
  • Add Worcestershire sauce, Dijon mustard (if using), garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Optional: stir in mushrooms.

3. Assemble in the slow cooker

  • Place patties in the slow cooker.
  • Pour the gravy over the patties, making sure they’re mostly covered.

4. Cook

  • Cover and cook:
    • Low: 6–7 hours
    • High: 3–4 hours
  • Patties should be tender and gravy thickened.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles.
  • Spoon extra gravy over the top.

💡 Tips:

  • Browning patties in a skillet first adds extra flavor but is optional.
  • For thicker gravy, mix 1 tablespoon cornstarch with 2 tablespoons cold water and stir into the gravy near the end of cooking.
  • Leftovers taste great the next day!

If you want, I can also make a quick stovetop version of Salisbury steak that takes about 30 minutes but still tastes like the slow-cooked version.

Do you want that faster stovetop version?
