Posted on February 11, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic croquette recipe — crispy outside, creamy inside 🤎

I’ll give you a basic version, plus easy variations.

🥔 Classic Potato Croquettes

Ingredients

  • 2 cups mashed potatoes (thick, not runny)
  • 1 egg
  • ½ cup shredded cheese (optional)
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • ½ cup flour
  • 1–2 eggs (for coating)
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Prepare mixture
In a bowl, combine mashed potatoes, egg, cheese, parsley, salt, and pepper. Mix until smooth.
  2. Shape
Form into small logs or oval shapes.
  3. Coat
Roll each croquette in flour → dip in beaten egg → coat with breadcrumbs.
  4. Fry
Heat oil to 350°F (175°C). Fry until golden brown (2–3 minutes per side).
  5. Drain
Remove and place on paper towels. Serve warm.

🔥 Variations

Chicken Croquettes

  • Replace half the potatoes with 1 cup finely chopped cooked chicken.

Ham & Cheese Croquettes

  • Add diced ham and mozzarella or cheddar.

Spanish-Style (Béchamel Base)

  • Use thick béchamel sauce mixed with shredded chicken or ham instead of potatoes.

Tips

  • Chill shaped croquettes 30 minutes before frying to prevent breaking.
  • For baking: brush with oil and bake at 400°F (200°C) for 20–25 minutes.
  • For extra crunch, double-coat in egg and breadcrumbs.
