🍰 Five-Flavor Pound Cake

A rich, buttery pound cake with layers of flavor: usually vanilla, almond, lemon, orange, and sometimes a hint of rum or nutmeg. It’s a classic dessert that pairs well with tea, coffee, or fruit.

🛒 Ingredients (1 loaf)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 1¾ cups sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract
  • 1 tsp grated lemon zest
  • 1 tsp grated orange zest
  • 2½ cups all-purpose flour
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk or half-and-half
  • Optional: 1–2 tsp dark rum or brandy for extra depth

👩‍🍳 Instructions

1️⃣ Prep

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
  • Grease and line a 9×5 loaf pan

2️⃣ Cream Butter & Sugar

  • Beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (3–4 minutes).

3️⃣ Add Eggs & Extracts

  • Add eggs one at a time, mixing well.
  • Stir in vanilla, almond extract, and citrus zests.
  • Add rum if using.

4️⃣ Combine Dry Ingredients

  • Whisk flour, baking powder, and salt together.

5️⃣ Finish Batter

  • Alternate adding dry ingredients and milk to the butter mixture until just combined.

6️⃣ Bake

  • Pour batter into loaf pan.
  • Bake 60–70 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • Let cool in pan 10–15 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.

🔥 Tips for Perfect Pound Cake

  • Use room-temperature eggs and butter for smooth batter.
  • Do not overmix once flour is added to keep it tender.
  • Optional: brush top with a light sugar syrup or glaze for extra moisture.

If you want, I can also give you:

  • A glazed version with citrus icing
  • A mini loaf or bundt cake adaptation
  • A holiday-spiced five-flavor pound cake version
