Here’s a rich, comforting French Onion Meatloaf 🧅🍽️
It has all the savory flavor of French onion soup baked right into a juicy meatloaf.


French Onion Meatloaf

Ingredients (Serves 4–6)

For the meatloaf:

  • 1½ lbs ground beef (80/20 works best)
  • 1 packet French onion soup mix
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or crushed crackers
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup shredded Swiss or mozzarella cheese
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • ½ tsp black pepper

Optional topping:

  • 1 cup caramelized onions
  • Extra shredded cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a loaf pan or line a baking sheet.
  2. Mix the meatloaf
    • In a large bowl, combine ground beef, soup mix, breadcrumbs, milk, eggs, cheese, Worcestershire sauce, and pepper.
    • Mix gently—don’t overwork.
  3. Shape
    • Form into a loaf or place into a loaf pan.
  4. Top (optional but recommended)
    • Spread caramelized onions over the top and sprinkle with extra cheese.
  5. Bake
    • Bake 55–65 minutes, until internal temperature reaches 160°F (71°C).
  6. Rest & serve
    • Let rest 10 minutes before slicing.

Tips

  • For extra juiciness, add ½ cup sour cream to the mix
  • Swiss cheese gives classic French onion flavor
  • Serve with mashed potatoes or green beans
