Classic and cozy 😌 butter cookies are simple, rich, and melt-in-your-mouth good. Here’s a foolproof old-school recipe.

šŸŖ Butter Cookies (Classic)

Ingredients (makes ~24 cookies)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • ¼ tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Cream butter & sugar
Beat butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy (2–3 minutes).
  2. Add vanilla
    Mix in vanilla until combined.
  3. Add dry ingredients
Slowly mix in flour and salt until dough forms.
Dough will be soft but not sticky.
  4. Shape cookies
    • Pipe with a star tip (classic bakery style), or
    • Roll into balls and flatten with a fork, or
    • Slice chilled dough into rounds.
  5. Chill (important!)
Refrigerate shaped cookies 20–30 minutes to prevent spreading.
  6. Bake
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C)
    • Bake 10–12 minutes until edges are lightly golden.
  7. Cool
Let cool on the pan 5 minutes, then transfer to a rack.

✨ Optional Add-Ons

  • Dip half in melted chocolate
  • Sprinkle with sugar before baking
  • Add lemon zest or almond extract
  • Sandwich with jam or chocolate

šŸ”„ Pro Tips

  • Use real butter only (no margarine).
  • Don’t overbake—pale = tender.
  • These store great in an airtight container for a week.
