Croque Monsieur
Time: ~10–15 minutes
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 1–2 slices ham
- ½–1 cup grated Swiss or Gruyère cheese
- Butter
Optional (classic touch):
- 2–3 tbsp béchamel sauce or a little cream
Steps
- Assemble:
Butter the bread. Add ham and cheese between slices. - Toast:
Cook in a pan over medium heat until golden on both sides. - Top:
Spread a little béchamel (or cream), sprinkle extra cheese. - Finish:
Broil or cover the pan until the cheese melts and bubbles.
Shortcut Version
No sauce — just ham, cheese, buttered bread. Still delicious.
