Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • Salt & pepper
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 4–5 medium potatoes, thinly sliced (or frozen hash browns)
  • 1 can cream of mushroom soup (or cream of chicken)
  • Β½ cup milk
  • 1½–2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • Optional: green beans, corn, or peas

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350Β°F (175Β°C). Grease a 9Γ—13 casserole dish.
  2. Brown beef with onion, salt, pepper, garlic powder, and paprika. Drain fat.
  3. In a bowl, mix soup + milk until smooth.
  4. Layer it up
    • Potatoes
    • Beef
    • Soup mixture
    • Cheese
      Repeat layers, finishing with cheese on top.
  5. Cover with foil and bake 60 minutes.
  6. Uncover and bake 10–15 more minutes until bubbly and golden.
  7. Rest 10 minutes before serving.

Tips for Success

  • Slice potatoes thin so they cook through
  • For extra flavor: add Worcestershire or a splash of beef broth
  • Want it creamier? Add sour cream to the soup mix
