Parmesan Creamed Onions

Ingredients

  • 1 lb small pearl onions (or 3–4 medium onions, diced)
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1–2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup heavy cream (or half-and-half for lighter version)
  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: pinch of nutmeg or fresh parsley for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the onions
    • If using pearl onions, blanch in boiling water for 2–3 minutes, then peel.
    • If using diced onions, just peel and chop.
  2. Cook onions
    • In a skillet, melt butter over medium heat.
    • Add onions and sauté 5–7 minutes until tender and lightly caramelized.
    • Add garlic and cook 1 minute until fragrant.
  3. Make the cream sauce
    • Pour in heavy cream and stir to combine.
    • Simmer 3–5 minutes until slightly thickened.
  4. Add Parmesan
    • Stir in Parmesan cheese until melted and creamy.
    • Season with salt, pepper, and optional nutmeg.
  5. Serve
    • Transfer to a serving dish and garnish with fresh parsley if desired.

Tips

  • For extra richness, finish with a pat of butter just before serving.
  • You can add mushrooms or bacon bits for variation.
