Here’s a classic Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy 🍽️
Comfort food that’s hearty, savory, and easy to make.


Salisbury Steak with Onion Gravy

Serves: 4
Time: ~35 minutes

Ingredients

Steaks

  • 1 lb ground beef
  • ⅓ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & black pepper

Onion Gravy

  • 2 tbsp butter or oil
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 tbsp flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper

Instructions

  1. Make patties
    Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, egg, ketchup, Worcestershire, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
    Shape into 4 oval patties.
  2. Brown steaks
    Heat oil in a skillet over medium-high.
    Brown patties 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.
  3. Cook onions
    In same pan, add butter and onions.
    Cook 8–10 minutes until soft and golden.
  4. Make gravy
    Sprinkle flour over onions and cook 1 minute.
    Slowly whisk in broth and Worcestershire.
  5. Simmer steaks
    Return patties to skillet.
    Cover and simmer 10–15 minutes until cooked through and gravy thickens.
  6. Serve
    Spoon onion gravy over steaks.

  • Mashed potatoes
  • Rice or egg noodles
  • Green beans or peas

Tips

  • Don’t overmix the beef—keeps steaks tender.
  • Add mushrooms to the gravy for extra flavor.
