Here’s a simple, classic Homemade White Bread recipe 🍞—soft, fluffy, and perfect for sandwiches or toast.


Homemade White Bread

Ingredients (Makes 1 loaf)

  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup warm water (about 110°F / warm, not hot)
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 2¼ tsp (1 packet) active dry yeast
  • 2 tbsp butter or oil, softened
  • 1 tsp salt

Instructions

  1. Activate yeast
    • In a bowl, mix warm water and sugar.
    • Sprinkle yeast on top and let sit 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. Make dough
    • Add butter (or oil) and salt to the yeast mixture.
    • Gradually mix in flour until a soft dough forms.
  3. Knead
    • Knead on a floured surface 8–10 minutes until smooth and elastic
    • (or 5 minutes using a stand mixer).
  4. First rise
    • Place dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise 1 hour or until doubled.
  5. Shape loaf
    • Punch down dough, shape into a loaf, and place in a greased loaf pan.
  6. Second rise
    • Cover and let rise 30–40 minutes until dough rises just above the pan.
  7. Bake
    • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
    • Bake 30–35 minutes until golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped.
  8. Cool
    • Remove from pan and cool on a rack before slicing.

Tips

  • Brush the top with melted butter after baking for a soft crust.
  • For extra softness, replace half the water with warm milk.
  • Store wrapped at room temperature for 2–3 days, or freeze for longer storage.
