🍰 Five-Flavor Pound Cake

A Five-Flavor Pound Cake is a rich, moist cake traditionally flavored with a combination of vanilla, almond, lemon, rum, and butter extracts (or similar variations). It’s dense yet tender, perfect for slicing with coffee or tea.

🥣 Ingredients (Serves 8–10)

  • 1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups granulated sugar
  • 4 large eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp almond extract
  • ½ tsp lemon extract or zest of 1 lemon
  • ½ tsp rum extract
  • ½ tsp butter flavoring (optional, enhances buttery taste)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 325°F (163°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar:
    • In a large bowl, beat butter and sugar until light and fluffy (~3–4 minutes).
  3. Add eggs:
    • Beat in eggs one at a time, mixing well after each.
  4. Combine dry ingredients:
    • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Gradually add to butter mixture alternately with milk, beginning and ending with flour.
  5. Add flavorings:
    • Stir in vanilla, almond, lemon, rum, and butter extracts.
  6. Bake:
    • Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.
    • Bake 60–70 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
    • Let cool in the pan 10 minutes, then transfer to a wire rack.
  7. Serve:
    • Slice and enjoy plain, with a glaze, or dusted with powdered sugar.

🔹 Tips & Variations

  • Glaze option: Drizzle with a simple lemon or rum glaze for extra flavor.
  • Moisture boost: Brush the cake with rum or simple syrup after baking.
  • Flavor flexibility: Adjust extracts based on preference; e.g., orange or brandy can replace rum.
  • Storage: Keeps well for several days in an airtight container, or freeze for longer storage.

The Five-Flavor Pound Cake is a classic, aromatic dessert with a rich buttery base and layered flavor profile, ideal for afternoon tea or dessert.

I can also provide a bundt cake variation with the same flavors for a more festive presentation. Do you want me to do that?
