Fried catfish, fried tilapia bites, and fried cod fish and chips

Posted on February 16, 2026 by Admin

Here are three crispy, golden seafood favorites — fried catfish, fried tilapia bites, and fried cod fish & chips — each with simple, flavorful preparation tips.

🐟 Fried Catfish

Ingredients

  • 4 catfish fillets
  • 1 cup cornmeal
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp cayenne (optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Soak catfish in buttermilk for 15–30 minutes.
  2. Mix coating: cornmeal, flour, and seasonings.
  3. Dredge fish in mixture, pressing to coat well.
  4. Fry at 350°F (175°C) for 4–6 minutes per side until golden and flaky.
  5. Drain on paper towels and serve with lemon wedges and tartar sauce.

💡 Tip: Cornmeal gives catfish its signature Southern crunch.

🐟 Fried Tilapia Bites

Ingredients

  • 1 lb tilapia fillets, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 tsp Old Bay or Cajun seasoning
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1 cup breadcrumbs or panko
  • Oil for frying

Instructions

  1. Season flour with Old Bay or Cajun seasoning.
  2. Dredge tilapia pieces in flour → dip in egg → coat in breadcrumbs.
  3. Fry at 350°F (175°C) for 2–3 minutes until golden brown.
  4. Drain and serve with spicy mayo or sweet chili sauce.

💡 Tip: Panko makes them extra crispy.

🐟 Fried Cod (Fish & Chips Style)

Ingredients

  • 4 cod fillets
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 cup cold sparkling water or beer
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • Salt & pepper
  • Oil for frying
  • Thick-cut potatoes (for chips)

Instructions

  1. Prepare chips: Cut potatoes into thick strips and fry at 325°F (165°C) for 4–5 minutes. Remove and rest.
  2. Make batter: Mix flour, baking powder, salt, and cold sparkling water/beer until smooth.
  3. Dip cod into batter and fry at 350–375°F (175–190°C) for 5–7 minutes until crisp.
  4. Fry chips again at higher temperature until golden and crispy.
  5. Serve with malt vinegar, lemon wedges, and tartar sauce.

💡 Tip: Cold batter + hot oil = light, crispy coating.

🔥 Frying Safety Tips

  • Maintain consistent oil temperature.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan.
  • Use a thermometer for best results.
  • Drain fried fish on a rack (not just paper towels) to keep crisp.

If you’d like, I can also give you a lighter air-fryer version for all three to reduce oil while keeping them crispy.
