Fried green tomatoes are Southern gold.

That crunchy cornmeal crust + tart, firm tomato inside? Perfect contrast every time. They’re crispy without being heavy and tangy enough to cut through everything else you’ve been naming.

Top-tier setup:

  • Firm green tomatoes, sliced thick
  • Seasoned cornmeal (salt, pepper, maybe a little cayenne)
  • Fried hot so the crust shatters but the tomato stays bright
  • Finish with a pinch of salt while they’re still sizzling

Even better with:

  • Remoulade or comeback sauce
  • Pimento cheese on the side (or on top, no rules)
  • A squeeze of lemon if you’re feeling wild 🍋
