🥖 Garbage Bread

Garbage bread is a stuffed bread roll loaded with meats, cheeses, and vegetables — basically all your favorite pizza or sandwich fillings rolled up inside pizza dough and baked until golden. It’s hearty, customizable, and perfect for game day or family dinners.

🥣 Classic Garbage Bread Recipe (Serves 6–8)

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup marinara or pizza sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup cooked Italian sausage or ground beef
  • ½ cup pepperoni slices
  • ½ cup diced bell peppers
  • ¼ cup diced onions
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven:
    • 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Roll out dough:
    • Roll pizza dough into a large rectangle (about 10×14 inches).
  3. Add fillings:
    • Spread a thin layer of sauce, leaving a 1-inch border.
    • Sprinkle mozzarella evenly.
    • Add cooked meat, pepperoni, vegetables, and seasoning.
  4. Roll it up:
    • Starting from the long side, tightly roll the dough like a jelly roll.
    • Pinch edges and seam closed. Place seam-side down on baking sheet.
  5. Brush & bake:
    • Brush with beaten egg for a golden crust.
    • Cut a few small slits on top to vent steam.
    • Bake 25–30 minutes until golden brown.
  6. Rest & slice:
    • Let cool 5–10 minutes before slicing.
    • Serve with warm marinara for dipping.

🔥 Popular Variations

  • Cheeseburger Garbage Bread: Ground beef, cheddar, pickles, and a drizzle of burger sauce.
  • Chicken Bacon Ranch: Cooked chicken, bacon, mozzarella, and ranch dressing.
  • Buffalo Chicken: Shredded chicken tossed in buffalo sauce with blue cheese.
  • Breakfast Version: Scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, and cheddar.

💡 Tips

  • Avoid overfilling to prevent leaking.
  • Pre-cook meats and vegetables to remove excess moisture.
  • You can prepare ahead and refrigerate before baking.

Garbage bread is warm, cheesy, and packed with flavor, making it a crowd-pleasing comfort food.

If you’d like, I can also share a quick air fryer version for smaller batches.
