Ah, classic comfort food! Here’s a simple, hearty way to make Ground Beef and Gravy over Mashed Potatoes 🥩🥔🍽️

Ground Beef and Gravy over Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the mashed potatoes:

  • 4–5 medium potatoes, peeled and chopped
  • 2–3 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk (more if needed)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste

For the ground beef and gravy:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce (optional)
  • Salt & pepper, to taste
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning or dried thyme (optional)

Instructions

  1. Make mashed potatoes
    • Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (~15–20 minutes).
    • Drain and mash with butter, milk, salt, and pepper until smooth. Set aside.
  2. Cook ground beef
    • In a skillet over medium heat, brown the beef until no longer pink.
    • Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Add onions & garlic
    • Sauté onions until soft (~3–4 minutes). Add garlic and cook 1 more minute.
  4. Make the gravy
    • Sprinkle flour over the beef mixture and stir for 1–2 minutes.
    • Gradually add beef broth while stirring to avoid lumps.
    • Add Worcestershire sauce, salt, pepper, and optional herbs.
    • Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. Serve
    • Spoon mashed potatoes onto plates.
    • Top generously with ground beef gravy mixture.

Tips

  • For creamier mashed potatoes, add a splash of cream or sour cream.
  • Add frozen peas or corn to the gravy for extra veggies.
  • Leftover gravy freezes well for later meals.

If you want, I can also give a one-pot version where the beef, gravy, and potatoes cook together for even less cleanup.

Do you want me to share that?
