Ingredients

  • 4–5 medium potatoes (Russet or Yukon Gold work best)

Instructions

1️⃣ Prep the Potatoes

  1. Peel if desired, then cut into sticks about ¼–½ inch thick.
  2. Soak potato sticks in cold water for at least 30 minutes (removes excess starch for crispier fries).
  3. Drain and pat completely dry with a clean kitchen towel.

2️⃣ Frying or Baking Options

Option A: Oven-Baked (Healthier)

  1. Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. Toss potatoes with oil, salt, and seasonings.
  3. Spread in a single layer on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  4. Bake 25–30 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and crispy.

Option B: Deep-Fried (Traditional)

  1. Heat oil in a deep pot to 350°F (175°C).
  2. Fry potatoes in batches for 3–5 minutes until golden.
  3. Remove and drain on paper towels.
  4. Optional: double-fry for extra crispiness — fry once at 325°F (163°C) until soft, then again at 375°F (190°C) until crisp.

Option C: Air Fryer

  1. Preheat air fryer to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Toss potatoes with a little oil and seasonings.
  3. Cook 15–20 minutes, shaking halfway through, until golden and crispy.

3️⃣ Serve

  • Sprinkle with salt and optional seasonings.
  • Serve with ketchup, mayonnaise, aioli, or your favorite dipping sauce.

Tips for Perfect Fries

  • Soaking potatoes removes starch and prevents sticking.
  • Patting them dry ensures crispiness.
  • Don’t overcrowd the pan — fries need space to crisp.
  • For extra flavor, toss baked fries with garlic powder, paprika, or Parmesan cheese immediately after cooking.
