Homemade Spaghetti

Posted on February 7, 2026 by Admin

Here’s a classic Homemade Spaghetti recipe, including both the pasta and a simple, flavorful sauce:

Ingredients (serves 4)

For the pasta (optional if making fresh):

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil

For the sauce:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef, pork, or Italian sausage (or a mix)
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 2–3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (28 oz / 800 g) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon tomato paste (optional, for richness)
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 teaspoon sugar (optional, balances acidity)
  • 1–2 tablespoons olive oil

For serving:

  • Freshly grated Parmesan cheese
  • Fresh basil (optional)

Instructions

1. Make the pasta (optional)

  • On a clean surface, form a mound with the flour. Make a well in the center and add eggs, salt, and olive oil.
  • Gradually mix flour into the eggs, kneading until smooth and elastic (about 8–10 minutes).
  • Cover with plastic wrap and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Roll out the dough into thin sheets and cut into spaghetti strands using a pasta cutter or knife.
  • Boil in salted water for 2–4 minutes until al dente. Fresh pasta cooks much faster than dried.

2. Make the sauce

  • In a large skillet or saucepan, heat olive oil over medium heat.
  • Sauté onion until soft, about 3–4 minutes. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more.
  • Add ground meat and cook until browned, breaking it up with a spoon.
  • Stir in crushed tomatoes, tomato paste, oregano, basil, salt, pepper, and sugar.
  • Simmer for 20–30 minutes on low heat, stirring occasionally.

3. Combine and serve

  • Drain the cooked pasta and toss with the sauce, or serve sauce over a bed of pasta.
  • Top with freshly grated Parmesan and fresh basil if desired.

💡 Tips:

  • For a richer sauce, add a splash of red wine while simmering.
  • You can also add vegetables like bell peppers, mushrooms, or zucchini for extra flavor.
  • Fresh pasta cooks very quickly—watch it closely to avoid overcooking.

If you want, I can give a super quick 20-minute version using store-bought spaghetti that still tastes homemade and flavorful.

Do you want that quick version?
