preparation of slow cooker Salisbury steak.

Ah, Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak—a classic comfort food that’s tender, juicy, and smothered in rich gravy. Using a slow cooker makes it almost foolproof. Here’s a complete recipe:

🥩 Slow Cooker Salisbury Steak

Ingredients (Serves 4)

For the patties:

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground beef (80/20 for juiciness)
  • 1/2 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • Salt & pepper to taste

For the gravy:

  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 tsp cornstarch mixed with 2 tbsp cold water (for thickening, optional)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

1. Make the Patties

  • In a bowl, combine ground beef, breadcrumbs, milk, chopped onion, egg, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
  • Mix until just combined (don’t overmix).
  • Form into 4–6 oval-shaped patties.

2. Prepare the Slow Cooker

  • Lightly spray the slow cooker with cooking spray.
  • Layer half of the sliced onions at the bottom.

3. Assemble

  • Place the patties on top of the onions.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together beef broth, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, salt, and pepper. Pour over the patties.

4. Cook

  • Cover and cook on low for 6–7 hours or high for 3–4 hours.
  • About 30 minutes before serving, if you want thicker gravy, mix cornstarch and cold water and stir into the slow cooker.

5. Serve

  • Serve hot over mashed potatoes, rice, or egg noodles. Spoon plenty of gravy over the patties.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use ground beef with some fat (80/20) to keep patties tender.
  • Optional browning: Sear the patties in a pan for 2–3 minutes per side before slow cooking for extra flavor.
  • Veggie upgrade: Add carrots or mushrooms to the slow cooker for extra texture and flavor.

If you want, I can give a “creamy onion and mushroom gravy version” that turns this Salisbury steak into a restaurant-level dish.

Do you want me to do that?
