Here’s a hearty, classic comfort food recipe: Salisbury Steak with Mushroom Gravy and Mashed Potatoes 🍽️🍄🥔

🥩 Salisbury Steak

Ingredients (Serves 4)

  • 1 lb (450g) ground beef
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 egg
  • ½ tsp garlic powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ¼ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce

For Mushroom Gravy

  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Salt & pepper to taste

🥔 Mashed Potatoes

Ingredients

  • 2 lbs (900g) potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 4 tbsp butter
  • ½ cup milk (or more, to taste)
  • Salt & pepper to taste

Instructions

1️⃣ Make Mashed Potatoes

  1. Boil potatoes in salted water until tender (about 15–20 minutes).
  2. Drain and mash with butter and milk.
  3. Season with salt and pepper. Keep warm.

2️⃣ Make Salisbury Steaks

  1. Mix ground beef, breadcrumbs, onion, egg, garlic powder, salt, pepper, and Worcestershire sauce in a bowl.
  2. Form into 4 oval patties.
  3. Heat a skillet over medium heat and brown patties 3–4 minutes per side. Remove and set aside.

3️⃣ Make Mushroom Gravy

  1. In the same skillet, melt butter.
  2. Sauté mushrooms until soft (5–7 minutes).
  3. Sprinkle flour over mushrooms and stir 1–2 minutes to form a roux.
  4. Slowly add beef broth while whisking.
  5. Stir in Worcestershire sauce and simmer until thickened (3–5 minutes).
  6. Return steaks to the gravy and simmer 5 more minutes.

4️⃣ Serve

  • Spoon mushroom gravy over Salisbury steaks.
  • Serve with a generous helping of mashed potatoes on the side.

💡 Tips

  • For extra flavor: Add caramelized onions to the gravy.
  • Make it richer: Stir a splash of cream into the gravy at the end.
  • Advance prep: You can make the patties ahead and freeze before cooking.

If you want, I can also give you a one-skillet version that combines the steaks, gravy, and potatoes all in one pan for easy cleanup.

Do you want me to do that?
